Malacca 2004

This blog records stories of our holiday trips together (M and Y) and of course some pictures of the places visited.

Our first overseas trip is a 4 days 3 nights trip to Malacca, which is a town at Malaysia. I have went to Malacca before with my family in the year 2002 for a short visit and will like to visit it again. M decided to go for the short trip to celebrate our first valentine day. We took coach through travel agency.

Malacca is a peaceful town whereby most buildings are located along the river. Most buildings are lowrise shophouses and majority of the population are Chinese. Generally the place is considered safe as compared to other parts of Malaysia, and you can walk around the place without much worry about safety. Most buildings are within walking distance so there is no need to spend much on transport. The food there are mostly nonya dishes which are interesting and nice.

There is not much shopping and there is only 1 big shopping centre in Malacca. The rest are shophouses where they sell local produce such as 'Lao Po Bing' etc. As for places of interest, there are the palace, museums, churches and scenery along the river. Malacca is influenced by Dutch so there are churches and colonial buildings which can be interesting if you like history and culture.

We have a relaxed time at Malacca as we have time to explore most places of interest and time to take nice photographs. M bought a big bouquet of flowers for me, which is rather unique at Malacca because the locals generally do not have this habit. We also have a nice 5 course valentine dinner at our hotel, which is very elaborate and better than any valentine dinner in Singapore, as all dishes are elaborate and the chef spent a lot of effort in decorating the dishes. We are very impressed by the dinner, even though the dinner is not cheap as compared to Singapore.

Our return trip by coach is a bit chaotic as the agency arranged for the local bus to drive us back to Singapore then change to another bus at the checkpoint. The Malaysian local bus that we took is not v clean and the seats are in poorer condition than the Singapore bus we took when we go to Malacca. Dun think that we will take back this agency service.
